“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” (Mathew 5, 5)
The story of the beatitudes is considered the moral Project for Christianity. Although this can be summed up in only one commandment, the commandment of love, it is separate into a new and original type of commandments. It is no longer enough to do no wrong but one must do well. And to do good works we must be generous with our money, which makes us a little more poor at the same time that it makes us a little less poor. To do well we must fulfill our obligations, although this may mean we shed a tear. To do well we must defend justice and, consequently, be at the side of those who suffer injustice, although this groups us with the persecuted. To do the right thing we must work for peace, calming violent situations, although this complicates our life and we run the risk of being attacked by both sides of the conflict. To do good we must forgive, even without the other party receive similar treatment.
We must try to practice all of the beatitudes, but, at least, it is important to begin with one and specialize in it, without forgetting the rest. Be peaceful. Be generous. Be humble. Be cautious. Be chaste. Be honest. And be happy, as promise Christ.
Intention: Pick the virtue that is easiest for you. Live it to the utmost. Make it your specialty. And then go for another.
