XXII Sunday: Humility

August 31, 2025.

“For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”  (Luke 14, 11)

Humility has never been an easily applied virtue. However, all of the Saints show, with their lives and their writings, that without it sainthood is not possible. But, there are many degrees of humility. There is that which allows us to recognize ourselves as we are, to accept the truth in the corrections others make of us, although it bothers us that others know our defects. There is the humility of those who adopt the mystery of the will of God for their lives despite the fact that they do not understand why the Lord allows certain things, certain misfortunes. There is the humility of those who would like to do more, but find it impossible given their problems of bad health or lack of time and are even forced to ask for help. There is the humility of those who work without expecting applause or a show of gratitude, although they more than deserve it. There is also the humility that puts up with injustice and slander, as long as it is he who is harmed and not another. And, to end this series which would be endless, is the humility of he who doesn’t mind risking failure and or looking foolish to do the will of God, instead of waiting so that others Hill resolve one’s problems.

However, to live this humility, something is needed, without which it is not only difficult but impossible. One needs to be in love with the humble Christ and, for Him and to be like Him, accept all that God wants or allows to happen in our own lives. For Him, but also with Him, since without his help we can do nothing. For Him and like Maria, the great teacher of humbleness, she who shows us to do the will of God with simplicity, without giving ourselves importance and accepting the mystery of twisted wrings of God.

Intention: Accept the plans of God, although we don’t understand them. Accept criticism and work so that God shall be loved, although we are not acknowledged.
