Sunday II: Against sin

January 18, 2026.

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”  (John 1, 29)

John the Baptist gives Jesus a title and a mission that have later served for centuries to identify Christ. He calls him the “lamb of God”, with all the allusions this appellative carries with it, and announces much before Holy Friday what will be the end of the Master. And He says that he has come to “take away the sin of the World”.

It is important not to forget this definition of John. We shouldn’t loose sight of something that we slowly tend to obscure: that Christ is the savior, the redeemer, the liberator of humanity. And this liberation has been accomplished through the fight against sin.

There is a sin which we could call structural, social, that has terrible consequences over the multitudes. There are few moments when we can do something against this sin, since most of us are too small. There is another sin that falls closer and is ours; against which we can fight. And it turns out that this sin annoys those around us, often making life difficult if not impossible.

Let Jesus take away the sin of the world -the structural and the personal-. Let us collaborate with him fighting against both sins, with all our strength. For our own good and for that of our fellow man.

Intention: Collaborate so that the social injustices and violence disappear, at least with prayer. Take away our own sins at least with confession.
