“Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.” (Mark 13, 31)
The words of Christ, authentic presence of Christ himself, never go by in vain. Not only do they not loose relevance, but if one listens to them with the ears of the soul they never stop bearing fruit in the heart of man.
However, for this, so that they are listened to, other voices must be silenced. At times these voices come from our own egoisms or instincts. At other times they are voices outside of us, they fight to supplant God from the first place in our heart and to occupy that place those words and those who utter them. It is therefore important to examine our conscience to discover if we are guided by the words of Christ, his message transmitted through the Church, or if they are other words – those of famous people, politicians, newsmen – who have taken over the guidance of our lives. Although these “words of men” come forth before our intelligence and in our interests in a seductive and attractive way; we must not forget that the same thing has happened other times in the past with disastrous consequences for the people and countries who listened, such as Nazism and Marxism. Only Christ’s words, “the word of God” produce life. Only these tell us the truth, including that part of the truth which hurts, which leaves us naked in our sins, those which we would like to keep hidden.
Let us as such make an effort to welcome the whole word of God, without letting anyone censor our heart or outside of us. And later, let us try in all seriousness to put it into practice.
Intentions: Analyze our criteria, our values, our moral norms, to see if they are coherent with the teachings of Christ or with what people say o world opinion.
