Ascension: Evangelize, the best social work

May 12, 2024.

“And he said unto them, Go you into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.”  (Mark 16, 15-19)

If we lived in a country affected by famine and if we saw people dieing of hunger in the street, our sensitivity would move us to do something for them. If we were in a city affected by a horrible flood, we would also do whatever possible to help those who had lost all under the waters. If there were an earthquake, a hurricane, or war guilty of the catastrophe, we wouldn’t remain indifferent and we would make sacrifices for those affected. All this because these misfortunes are seen by our eyes and move our conscience.

However, to attend the spectacle of a multitude that live estranged from God leaves us cold, as if it were not important. We know that this has not only consequences for eternal perdition of the soul, but also causes divorces, abuse of wives, misfortune for our children, robberies , and all kinds of corruption. Why are we this way? Why don’t we take at least as seriously the savior of the soul as that of the body? Why are there more callings to be doctors than to be priests?

Christ didn’t leave us the task, when he left earth, to make hospitals, schools etc. All this is very useful even indispensable. However, He did ask us to evangelize, because by doing so we save not only the soul but also the body, not only do we ensure eternal life but also life on earth.

Intentions: Do everything possible- starting with prayer and testimony-to get close to Christ those around us knowing that it is the best we can do for them.
