Sunday XXIII: Jesus among the disciples

September 6, 2026.

“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”  (Mathew 18, 20)

Christ is present in the midst of his disciples, the same as he is present in the Eucharist, although it is with a different type of presence. But, the same as in the Eucharist, it is necessary to meet certain requirements. The first is that of unity and the second is that of unity in name of the Lord.

When one realizes the gift that we receive – the presence of the Lord – one understands that is worth all the trouble provided we get that promised result. The sacrifice implied by humility and accepting the defects of our fellow men, for example, is compensated by the joy of living with Christ. When one is with Him, one lives in Heaven: when the unity is broken, when we have pushed Christ from our side, we feel Hell. Not in vain, Heaven is being with God and Hell is being without Him. We frequently feel this in our homes, for example. If love isn’t present we often hear: “This is hell.” They are right, but don’t know why. It is the absence of Jesus, absence tied to the lack of love, which makes life in common impossible.

But, also, this unity must be made in name of the Lord and, as such, joined with Him and with who represents him, the Church. This also has a price: that of accepting the teachings of the Church; all, including the most difficult to understand or practice.

This price may be expensive, but it is worth it. On the other hand, don’t deceive oneself: if you don’t pay the price of unity you will pay the price of division. If you don’t make the effort to maintain the family together, you will have to suffer the consequences of the disunion.  And paying, it is better to pay for what joins us with God and makes us happy on earth.

Intention: To practice the maxim: “the least perfect in unity is worth more than the most perfect in separation”. Practice humility, patience, and faithfulness to the Church.
